TIG Welding Power Source (Welding Machine/Welder)
This is the heart of the TIG welding system. It provides the electrical power to create the arc. TIG power sources come in different types, primarily differentiated by their waveform and capabilities:
- AC/DC Power Sources
  These are the most versatile and are essential for welding a wide range of metals.
- AC (Alternating Current)
  Primarily used for aluminum and magnesium alloys. The AC waveform provides a cleaning action, breaking up the oxide layer on these metals.
- DC (Direct Current)
  Used for most other metals like steel, stainless steel, titanium, copper, and nickel alloys.
- DCEN (Direct Current Electrode Negative)
  Also known as straight polarity. This is the most common DC setting, providing deep penetration and a narrow bead.
- DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive)
  Also known as reverse polarity. Less common for TIG, it’s used for some specific applications where surface cleaning is paramount, but it generates less penetration and a wider bead.
- DC Only
  Used for specific applications requiring only direct current output.
